LONDON WINS THE TITLE!

LONDON HOLT DEN TITEL!

Geballte Fäuste, konzentrierte Köpfe und fiebernde Fans: Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte des Schachboxens traten zwei Vereine gegeneinander an. 600 Zuschauer fieberten dem Titel entgegen und die Stimmung war bis zum Ende grandios. Die beiden Vorkämpfe entschieden jeweils London und Berlin für sich. Im Hauptkampf gab es einen starken und schlagkräftigen Kampf im Ring und am Brett bis zur siebten Runde.
Der Shooting-Star des Abends und absoluter Publikumsliebling war ganz eindeutig der Berliner Nils Becker (Jahrgang 1988) mit einem überragenden Schachrating-Elo von 2144 und Ausdauer im Ring holte er den Sieg im zweiten Vorkampf für Berlin!

Zusammenfassung der Kämpfe

Erster Vorkampf: Alex “The Snake“ Troll (CBCB) gegen Tim Bendfield (LCBC)

Der erste Kampf des Abends war in den ersten Runden ausgeglichen und bewegte sich auf hohem schachlichen Niveau. Tim Bendfield mit Weiß konnte in einer Benoni-Struktur in der dritten Schachrunde positionellen Druck ausüben. Alex “The Snake“ Troll suchte seinerseits dann die Vorteile im Boxen und konnte die 4. Boxrunde bei den Punktrichtern für sich entscheiden. Tim konterte in der 5. Schachrunde mit einem hervorragend herausgespielten Ablenkungsopfer und setzte zum Königsangriff an. Alex rettete sich dann in die 6. Boxrunde, in der er jedoch den Knockout nicht erzwingen konnte. Gleich zu Beginn der 7. Schachrunde musste Alex die Dame geben, um das drohende Matt zu verhindern und gab auf. Damit stand es 1:0 für London.

Zweiter Vorkampf: Nils “the Berlin Bull“ Becker (CBCB) gegen Nick “the Show Stopper“ Cornish (LCBC)

Der zweite Kampf war an Dramatik kaum zu überbieten und wurde von dem Shootingstar des Berliner Chess Boxing Club in der 9. Runde im Schach entschieden. Auch hier wogte der Kampf in den ersten Runden hin und her, wobei Nils aus seiner defensiven Schachstrategie heraus Nick Cornish stark unter Zeitdruck setzte. Nick wiederum konterte im Boxen und holte sich die Punkte in der 6. Boxrunde. In der 7. Schachrunde fiel dann die Vorentscheidung, als Nick nach Damentausch seinen Springer auf C5 verlor. Mit nur noch 39 Sekunden auf der Schachuhr setzte Nick alles auf einen Knockout in der 8. Boxrunde, den Nils bravourös konterte. In Runde 9 dann die Zeitüberschreitung von Nick und Nils brachte Berlin wieder zurück ins Spiel: Berlin - London 1:1.

Hauptkampf: Lukasz “Frog Kosowksi“ (CBCB) gegen Daniel Rivas Lazarraga (LCBC)

Der letzte Kampf des Abends musste die Entscheidung bringen, wer die Nase vorne hat: London oder Berlin! Das Berliner Neugewächs Lukasz “Frog Kosowski“ stieg gegen den erfahrenen Daniel Rivas Lazarraga in den Ring. Lukasz startete sehr nervös im Schach und hatte bereits am Ende von Runde 1 erheblich Material verloren. Mit der Erfahrung von über 80 Amateurkämpfen überfiel Lukasz dann sprungartig Daniel in der 1. Boxrunde. Daniel, im Boxen hoffnungslos unterlegen, versuchte immer wieder zu klammern, um nicht k.o. zu gehen. In der dritten Runde dann die nächste überraschende Wendung: Daniel, beeindruckt von den vielen harten Schlägen, die er hinnehmen musste, stellte die Dame ein, hatte jedoch immer noch materiellen Vorteil. In der 4. Boxrunde dann die erste Zeitstrafe für Daniel wegen Klammerns. Lukasz dominierte ganz klar im Ring, konnte allerdings nicht zum finalen Knockout ansetzten. In der 5. Schachrunde folgte dan n ein wilder Schlagabtausch: Zwei Züge vor dem Matt rettete sich Lukasz in die 6. Boxrunde. Doch trotz Niederschlag gelang es Daniel, sich in die Sieg bringende 7. Schachrunde zu bringen. Nach 20 Sekunden in Runde 7 dann das für Daniel und den London Chessboxing Club erlösende Schachmatt.
Damit ging der kleine Londoner Bruder überraschend als Sieger im ersten großen Wettkampf gegen den Chessboxing Club Berlin hervor. Noch im Ring vereinbarten Iepe Rubingh und Tim Woolgar ein Revanche für das kommende Jahr in London.

Der nächste große Schachbox-Kampfabend ist am 10. September im Londoner Scala.

London wins the title!

Clenched fists, concentrating heads, and feverish fans. For the first time in the history of chessboxing, two groups faced off: The Chess Boxing Club Berlin (CBCB) vs. the London Chess Boxing Club (LCBC), the two first and oldest chessboxing clubs in the world. Six hundred spectators followed the match excitedly, and the mood was terrific from start to finish. London and Berlin each won one of the two undercard matches. The main event was a strong and forceful fight in the ring and on the board until the 7th round.

The star of the night and absolute fan favourite was clearly Berlins Nils Becker (born 1988). With an outstanding Elo rating of 2144 and stamina in the ring, he claimed victory in the second undercard match for Berlin!

Overview of the Bouts

First undercard match: Alex “The Snake“ Troll (CBCB) vs. Tim Bendfield (LCBC)

The first bout of the evening was an even match in the first rounds and was at a high level of chess. Tim Bendfield, playing white, was able to use positional pressure in a Benoni structure in the third round of chess. Alex “The Snake“ Troll looked to seize the upper hand in boxing and was able to win the fourth boxing round on points. In the fifth chess round, Tim countered with an outstandingly played deflection sacrifice and moved to attack the king. Alex saved himself in the sixth boxing round but could not manage a knockout. Right at the start of the seventh chess round, Alex had to sacrifice his queen to avoid checkmate, and he resigned. That made it 1:0 for London.

Second undercard match: Nils “the Berlin Bull“ Becker (CBCB) vs. Nick “the Show Stopper“ Cornish (LCBC)

The second bout could hardly have been more dramatic and was won in the 9th round in chess by the star of the Berlin Chess Boxing Club. Here, too, the match went back and forth in the first rounds, as Nils put the pressure on Nick Cornish with his defensive chess strategy. Nick countered that in boxing and won points in the 6th boxing round. In the 7th chess round came the preliminary decision, when Nick, after an exchange of queens, lost his knight at C5. With only 39 seconds left on the clock, Nick put everything into a knockout in the 8th boxing round, which Nils bravely countered. In the 9th round, the timeout brought Berlin back into the game: Berlin-London 1:1.

The Main Event: Lukasz “Frog Kosowski“ (CBCB) vs. Daniel Lizarraga Rivas (LCBC)

The last bout of the night had to prove who is ahead, London or Berlin! The Berlin newcomer Lukasz “Frog Kosowski“ faced off against the experienced Daniel Lizarraga Rivas. Lukasz started out nervous in chess and had already suffered significant losses by the end of round 1. With experience in over 80 amateur matches, Lukasz dominated Daniel in the first boxing round. Daniel, hopelessly outmatched in boxing, tried again and again to clinch to keep from being knocked out. In the third round came the next surprising turn of events: Daniel, impressed by the many hard punches he had had to take, used his queen, but still had the substantive advantage. In the 4th boxing round came the first-time penalty for Daniel for clinching. Lukasz clearly dominated in the ring but could not manage a final knockout. In the 5th chess round there was another wild exchange of blows. Two moves before checkmate, Lukasz saved himself in the 6th boxing round. Despite a knockout, Daniel managed to make it into the victorious 7th round of chess. Twenty seconds into round 7 came the checkmate for Daniel and the London Chessboxing Club.

With that, the little brother from London surprisingly triumphed over the Chessboxing Club Berlin in his first major bout. In the ring, Iepe Rubingh and Tim Woolgar already arranged a rematch next year in London.

Lukasz 'Frog Kosowski' vs. Daniel Rivas Lizarraga Lukasz 'Frog Kosowski' (1985) stammt aus Biawystok (Polen). In seiner Jugend galt er als großes Schachtalent und boxte für die polnische Nationalmannschaft. Jetzt tritt er für den Chess Boxing Club Berlin (CBCB) an. In Berlin wurde Kosowski vom Vorsitzenden des CBCB, Iepe Rubingh, entdeckt. Beim Öffentlichen Probetraining im CBCB zeigte er herausragende Kampfeigenschaften. Kosowski hat großes Potential, eine bedeutende Persönlichkeit des Schachboxens zu werden. Kosowski steigt mit einem Gewicht von 74,5 Kilogramm und einem Schach Elo Rating von 1750 in den Ring. Daniel Rivas Lizarraga (1979) stammt aus der Stierkampfstadt Pamplona (Spanien). Er begann seine Schachbox-Karriere im Boston Dome in London und trainierte im London Chess Boxing Club unter der Riege des englischen Schachbox-Gründers und Vorsitzenden Tim Woolgar. Lizarraga wiegt 74 Kilogramm, Elo 1850. Er hat bereits zwei Kämpfer des CBCB in London geschlagen, eine Revanche steht noch offen ... VORKÄMPFE Im ersten Vorkampf trift Alex 'The Snake' Troll aus Berlin auf Tim Bendfield. Alex 'The Snake' Troll (1969) wiegt 79 Kilogramm gilt als einer der ersten Mitglieder des CBCB und hat ein Schach Elo Rating von 1705. Sein Kampfname wird Euch spätestens in der erste Boxrunde klar! Kosowski has great potential to become one of the most significant figures in chessboxing. Kosowski enters the ring for the Chess Boxing Club Berlin weighing 74.5 kg and with a chess Elo Rating of 1750. Daniel Rivas Lizarraga (1979) comes from the bullfighting city of Pamplona (Spain). He began his chessboxing career in the Boston Dome in London and trained in the London Chess Boxing Club under the tutelage of the English chessboxing founder and leader Tim Woolgar. Lizarraga Rivas weighs in at 74 kg, Elo 1850. He has already defeated two fighters of CBCB in London, and a rematch remains to be seen. Undercard Matches In the first undercard match, Alex 'The Snake' Troll of Berlin fights Tim Bendfield. Premiere in Dänemark

In Aarhus Dänemark fand am 14 Mai ein erster offizieller Demonstrationskampf statt. Organisiert wurde das Event für Jugendliche von Mikkel Nørgaard von der Dänischen Schulschach Federation.

Nils Becker trat gegen GM Arik Braun an. Es war das erste Mal, dass ein Großmeister einen Schachbox Ring betrat, den er schließlich in der 7. Runde im Schach als Gewinner verließ.

Premiere in Denmark

A first official demonstration match took place on 14 May in Aarhus, Denmark. The event for youth was organised by Mikkel Nørgaard of the Danish School Chess Federation. Nils Becker competed against GM Arik Braun. It was the first time a grand master entered a chessboxing ring, which he finally left in the seventh round as a winner.

BATTLE OF THE CITIES Der CHESS BOXING CLUB BERLIN tritt gegen den LONDON CHESS BOXING CLUB an! Am 24. Juni 2011 kommt es zu einem Showdown mit Hirn und Fäusten. In der Lagerhalle des „Tape Club“ Berlin, treten die beiden ältesten Schachbox-Vereine der Welt gegeneinander an. Der „Chess Boxing Club Berlin“, bereits 2005 gegründet, gilt als die Wiege des Schachboxens. Hier wurde die hybride Kampfsportart erfunden, hier wird Schachboxen seitdem gelehrt, verfeinert und in die Welt verbreitet. Der „London Chessboxing Club“ besteht seit 2008, seitdem hat er sich rasch zum zweitgrößten Verein der Welt entwickelt. Immer wieder sind Kämpfer aus London nach Berlin gereist, um einen Titel für England zu holen. Manchmal auch nur für Ruhm und Ehre. Die Berliner haben erstklassige Kämpfe in London gezeigt, wo es seit einigen Jahren regelmäßig Schachbox-Wettbewerbe im „Boston Dome“ zu sehen gibt. BATTLE OF THE CITIES The CHESSBOXING CLUB BERLIN competes against the LONDON CHESSBOXING CLUB! On 21 June 2011 there will be a showdown of brains and fists. In the warehouse of the Tape Club in Berlin, the two oldest chessboxing clubs of the world will face off against each other. The Chessboxing Club Berlin, founded in 2005, is considered the origin of chessboxing. The hybrid martial art was invented here, and chessboxing was taught, refined and expanded into the world from here. The London Chessboxing Club was founded in 2008 and has quickly become the second largest club in the world. Fighters have come again and again from London to Berlin to claim a title for England, sometimes just for fame and honour. The Berliners have demonstrated first-class fights in London, where regular chessboxing fights have been held for several years now in the Boston Dome. Kreuzberger Kiezboxgala -Athletic und Elegant - Those who can’t wait until 24th June should check out the Kiezboxgala at the Festsaal Kreuzberg. There won’t be chess, but the fighting will be just as hard as with chessboxing. Neighbourhood solidarity is the theme of the day, so that this time girls and boys from the relevant neighbourhoods of Berlin can fight against each other! 22 April 2011 8:00 P.M. More than 600 spectators watched one of the greatest chessboxing battles in history for the Scottish championship. The battle between Svein Clouston and Alan Riley ended in the last seconds of the second round, in a stalemate on the last row with only one pawn crushed between both kings. November finden in Berlin die Internationalen Deutschen Meisterschaften statt, die von der WCBO in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Chess Boxing Club Berlin (CBCB) präsentiert werden. Im Titelkampf sollte Iepe Rubingh, der Erfinder des Schachboxens, gegen seinen Meisterschüler Sebastian Bauersfeld antreten. Leider brach sich Bauersfeld beim Sparring das Nasenbein und wird darauf verzichten müssen, den Altmeister herauszufordern. An seine Stelle tritt nun eine andere große Nachwuchshoffnung des deutschen Schachboxens: Tim Yilmaz, der Initiator des Münchener Schachboxvereins. Iepe 'The Joker' Rubingh, 36, wagt noch einmal ein Comeback, das gleichzeitig sein Abschiedskampf sein wird. Rubingh bestritt 2003 in Amsterdam den ersten Schachboxkampf der Geschichte und bringt sich derzeit am Brett und im Ring ein letztes Mal in bestechende Form, um mit einem Kampfgewicht von 77,5 Kilogramm, einem ELO-Rating von 1850 und dem Titel als Internationaler Deutscher Meister von der Bühne des Wettkampf-Schachboxens abzutreten. Sein Gegner, Tim Yilmaz, 31, ist Mitgründer des Münchner Boxwerks und seit Jahren als Vereinsboxer aktiv. Samstag tritt er zum ersten Mal in der Hybridform eines Schachboxkampfes an und wird beweisen müssen, dass er seine Klasse im Ring auch mit der mentalen Herausforderung eines Schachspiels zu kombinieren weiß. Yilmaz ist Student der Geowissenschaften im Fachbereich Geothermik und wurde vor einem Jahr vom umsichgreifenden Schachboxfieber befallen. Innerhalb kurzer Zeit hat er sein Schachspiel auf Wettkampf-Niveau gesteigert und ist zu einer der spannendsten Entdeckungen in der deutschen Schachboxszene geworden, mit besten Aussichten auf nationale und internationale Titel. Yilmaz wird den Ring mit einem Gewicht von 78kg und einem ELO-Rating von 1650 betreten. In den beiden Vorkämpfen treten Kämpfer des Berliner Schachboxvereins CBCB gegeneinander an. Chessboxing is coming home! ATTENTION – BREAKING NEWS: New main fight! After two years of focusing on international development, chessboxing is finally returning to its Berlin roots again. On November 6, the World Chess Boxing Organisation WCBO in association with the Berlin Chess Boxing Club CBCB will host the International German Championship in Festsaal Kreuzberg. In the main fight, Iepe Rubingh, the inventor of chessboxing, was to face off against Sebastian Bauersfeld, the CBCB’s finest fighter. Alas, Bauersfeld broke his nose in sparring and will not be able to step into the ring to face his mentor. Taking his place will be another rising star of German chessboxing: Tim Yilmaz, founder of the Munich Chessboxing Club. For Iepe “The Joker”Rubingh, 36, this fight will mark his return to as well as his goodbye from competitive chessboxing. After years of abstaining from competitions, the aging champ endeavors to show the new generation of chessboxers their limits one last time. Rubingh fought in the world’s first-ever chessboxing bout in 2003 in Amsterdam and is now getting into perfect shape to enter the ring at 77.5kg and an ELO-Rating of 1850 and leave as International German Champion. His opponent, Tim Yilmaz, 31, is a co-founder of the Munich Boxwerk boxing gym and has several years of boxing experience under his belt. On Saturday, however, he will make his debut in the hybrid competition of chessboxing and will have to show that his outstanding skills in the ring are accompanied my the mental abilities necessary to play a game of chess in the middle of a boxing fight. Yilmaz is a geoscience student specializing in geothermics who got bitten by the chessboxing bug one year ago and has quickly brought his chess game up to competition level. Stepping into the ring at 78kg and an ELO-Rating of 1650, he is one of the most exciting discoveries in the chessboxing world, ready to excel at a national as well as international level. The undercard bouts showcase the biggest talents from the Berlin Chess Boxing Club. Two brothers will step into the ring to face monumental, yet very different, challenges: Valentin Vonnemann, the older brother, will be up against former German Youth Chess Champion Nils Becker, who will seek to translate his dominance on the board into a strong stance in the ring. Der Erfinder des Schachboxens bestritt 2003 in Amsterdam den ersten Schachboxkampf der Geschichte und bringt sich derzeit am Brett und im Ring ein letztes mal in bestechende Form, um mit einem Kampfgewicht von 74,5 Kilogramm und einem Elo-Rating von 1850 zu seinem Abschiedskampf antreten. Sein Gegner, Sebastian Bauersfeld, 26, ist Student der Informatik und hat 2006 mit dem Schachboxen begonnen. Sein Großvater war Schachmeister, sein Vater Berliner Boxmeister. Mit diesem Erbe wurde er von Iepe Rubingh entdeckt und gefördert. Mit einem Gewicht von 74,8 Kilogramm und einem Elo-Rating von 1855 gilt er als der stärkste Kämpfer in der zweiten Schachbox-Generation. Am 6. On November 6th the Festsaal Kreuzberg will play host to a number of bouts showcasing veterans and rising talents from the Chess Boxing Club Berlin. The main event will star Iepe 'The Joker' Rubingh, 36, making a comeback appearance that will likely also be his farewell. The inventor of chessboxing is getting into impressive shape in the ring and on the board to face his most recent successor in a title bout that will see these two men compete for the International German Championships. Sebastian Bauersfeld, 26, a computer science student, took up chessboxing in 2006. His grandfather was a chess master, his father Berlin boxing champion. Discovered by Iepe Rubingh Bauersfeld, the finest student, will face his old master weighing in at 74.8 kg with an ELO-Rating of 1855. Will it come to the change of guards or can Iepe Rubingh use his superior experience and retire on the back of one last big victory? Sensational heavyweight clash on Oct. 16th at London Boston Dome!

Sergio 'The Phoenix' Leveque is making a comeback from a narrow defeat against Andy Costello and will fight Jimbo 'Slice' Taylor.
Dutch Hubert 'The Wardrobe' Van Melick returns to the ring after a lay-off, this time pitting his wits against GBCBO founder Tim Woolgar. Van Melick boasts a 100% record after wins over Mexico's Hector Gomez and Bob Innes. Woolgar has a competitive record of two wins and one defeat.

LONDON SERIES KICK OFF 13 MARCH!

London Series start on the 13th of March: "The Phoenix" Flies in Against Former City Banker Van Melick International Chessboxing returns to The Boston Dome! On 13. March London will witness another exciting fight night with brains! This time top of the bill is a thrilling heavyweight encounter between Sergio "The Phoenix" Leveque from Italy and Dutchman, Hubert Van Melick. Leveque makes his chessboxing debut, marking the final step in his recovery from a horrendous motorbike accident in 2005 when doctors doubted he would ever walk again. Leveque has proved them wrong, regaining fitness and climbing back in the ring three times in Italy during 2009 before rising to the chessboxing challenge. Leveque plays in the Italian A league chess team and is a candidate master level player. Van Melick makes his third chessboxing appearance following two wins against Mexico's Hector Gomez in October 2009 and Welshman Bob Innes in December 2009. Van Melick's chessboxing career kicked off in earnest after losing his job at a top merchant bank during the financial crisis. Now instead of trading shares he trades punches and material on the chessboard, aiming for a shot at the European title currently held by Italy's Gianluca Sirci. On the undercard we have "The Man From Pamplona" Daniel Lizarraga matched against Berliner, Sebastian Bauersfeld and Rob Gillies vs. Johnny Higginson. This is the first of five UK chessboxing events due to take place in London this year, produced by the Great Britain Chess Boxing Organisation in conjunction with The Wolrd Chess Boxing Organisation. Future dates in 2010 will be May 8th, July 3rd, September 11th and December 4th. Make sure you'll get your ticket in time! Chessboxing conquers LA! The WCBO welcomes a new member! At the beginning of this year founder Andrew McGregor opened the first chessboxing club in Los Angeles. Last Saturday, February 27th, they started off on the right foot with a demonstation fight. Andrew "The Fightin' Philanthropist" won by checkmate in the 5th round against Berlin Chess Boxing Club's Boxing trainer David "Dr. King Kong" Pfeifer. Scandal in Siberia!

The Siberian Chess Boxing Organisation fell victim to fraud!
As it has been reported before the World Championship Title fight between Leo Kraft and Nikolay Sazhin on 28 November 2009 in Krasnoyarsk had been followed by at least 2000 spectators.
In the aftermath of the event the organizers of the venue "Ivan Yarygin Palace of Sports" claimed that only 57 tickets had been sold as well as they weren't able to return the remaining tickets. The earnings from the 57 sold tickets were retained for "superintendent service".
The SCBO pressed charges, untill now without any succes.
The WCBO officially supports the SCBO and generally condemns such conduct.

SIBERIAN SENSATION: YOUNGEST CHESSBOXING CHAMPION EVER!

Leo "Granit" Kraft is the youngest World Champion in Chessboxing history! On November 28 at the Ivan Yarygin Palace of Sport in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia a crowd of 2000 witnessed a fiercly fought battle in the light heavyweight division, between the 2 most talented chessboxers the world has ever seen: the reigning world champion Nikolay "The Chairman" Sazhin and the young Leo "Granit" Kraft. On paper experts knew this would be the highest quality fight ever organised by the World Chess Boxing Organisation in cooperation with the Siberian Chess Boxing Organisation. Nikolay "The Chairman" Sazhin, a 21 year old math student from Krasnoyarsk, has an amateur boxing record encompassing 95 bouts with 85 victories and his chess Elo rating is 2005. Leo Kraft, only 17 years old, comes originally from Gomel in Belarus but has been adopted by the German Chess Boxing Organisation (GCBO). He has an impressive record of 50 amateur boxing bouts and 45 wins. He recently placed 5th at the European junior boxing championships in Bulgaria and will compete in the World junior championships next year. His chess Elo Rating is 1997. Kraft, playing with the white pieces, aimed for the Spanish opening but Sazhin forced him into the Greenfield defense within the 1st chess round. In the second round Leo Kraft started fiercly and overwhelmed Sazhin with a Mike Tyson style of boxing. In the 3rd round Kraft castled long, which was the signal for both players to go for a direct kings attack. Sazhin was quicker and Kraft was forced to defend his king. The Chairman also got the upperhand in boxing, demonstrating his world champion qualities. In the 5th and 7th (both chess) rounds Sazhin attempted checkmate on the board but this used too much time of his chessclock. Leo Kraft skillfully defended his king. In the 6th round Kraft once again put Sazhin under pressure with fierce combinations of hooks and uppercuts. In the 8th round with only one minute left on the chess timer, Sazhin knew he had to knockout his younger opponent. Backed by the excited local crowd he attacked his younger opponent with all he had, but after 3 minutes Kraft was still standing. The bell rang and Nikolay Sazhin laid down his own king and surrendered. Leo Kraft is the new World Champion in the light heavyweight division! After the fight, Vladimir Makarov, head of the SCBO, pointed out that Sazhin had an knee injury just three days before the fight which definitely influenced his ability. After Iepe Rubingh, president of the WCBO confirmed this, both parties agreed on a rematch in 2010.

World Championship fight in Siberia with most talented fighters ever! On 28th of November, 2009 the Siberian Chess Boxing Organization (SCBO) presents Nikolay 'The Chairman' Sazhin (Russia) versus Leo 'Granit' Kraft (Germany) in a battle for the light-heavyweight world title. The event in Krasnoyarsk, the incumbent world champion's native city, is the first chessboxing World Championship ever held on Russian soil. The show is presented in association with the World Chess Boxing Organisation. Nikolay Sazhin is a 5th-year student at the Institute of Space and Information Technology of the Siberian Federal University. His amateur boxing record encompasses 95 bouts with 85 victories. His Chess Elo rating is 2005. Leo Kraft, the youngest chessboxer ever to challenge for a world title, comes originally from Gomel in Belarus, but has been adopted by the newly founded German Chess Boxing Organisation (GCBO). At only 17 years of age he has an impressive record of 50 amateur boxing bouts and 45 wins. He recently became 5th at the European junior boxing championships in Sofia (Bulgaria). His Elo Rating is 1997. Except from the world championship, the undercard includes two Siberian Chess Boxing title fights. The after party and show will be headlined by cult rock group Gorky Park! Date: 28th of November Time: 5 p.m Place: Ivan Yarygin Palace of Sport, Recreation Island, Krasnoyarsk, Russia Gianluca Sirci gains European Championship title in boiling Boston Dome, London! In October the London ChessBoxing again organised a great fight night featuring Andy 'The Rock' Costello and Gianluca 'Il Dottore' Sirci competing in the first European heavyweight championship final. The clash of the old heavy weight rivals had been awaited eagerly as Costello had lost against Sirci in Berlin 2008 due to a controversial disqualification. So Costello had a bone to pick with Sirci and it seemed promising for Costello with a home field advantage. During the boxing rounds The Rock could throw more punches but Il Dottore's chess game was the difference between the two. He had been training hard to improve his chess skills which paid off in the ninth round making him the first European heavyweight champion in chessboxing history! The Undercard fight was fought by Dutch Hubert van Melick against Hector Gomez. It was a thrilling battle, where both chessboxers fought as true lions. Van Melick eventually won in the ninth round while Gomez exceeded the chess time limit.
