Dear everybody,

THE SINGAPORE MIRACLE @ THE SINGAPORE BIENNALE, Sept. 1st - 12th of Nov. 2006
_______________________________________________________________________________________

after three weeks of talking to an Angsana Tree in Singapore it started raining out of the crone just before the opening of the Singapore Biennale. It is said that the rain of the tree washes away sins, cures diseases and even makes us younger. So we took the test and had a shower last sunday.

This time I could bring the Miracle Team from Berlin with me to Singapore. They worked closely together with local specialists. And then of course there was the help of allround support from Tokyo by Michi 'KO' Ogura, who is an outstanding specialist on metaphysical issues.

Let's cut the crap. Enjoy the photos!
If you are in Singapore go to:

best time to visit is between 17:00 and 23:00, you will have a 70% chance that it will rain twice an hour.

Update 08/09 2005

LAST WEEK// backjumps

Backjumps Exhibition opened last friday (http://www.backjumps.org/li2.html). Curated by Adria Nabi, I joined the exhibtion about street art with the movie about the Berlin Miracle (2002, https://www.iepe.net). The opening was a big succes; about 3000 -mainly young- people visited this very funky and rough art expo.

SINCE A WHILE// CBCB e.V.

The first Chess Boxing Club Berlin started training this summer. (see photos attached) The club will soon have it's own web blog: http://blog.cbcberlin.de. This blog will - unfortunately for those who only speak english -be in the german language.

FROM NOW// www.joker.iepe.net/ Aktion 05

Finally the joker website is online! => https://www.iepe.net <
Hans 'Mazta' Finckh did a great job in creating a html website that has some very flashy gadgets.
The direct cause for the website was its embediment in a german Union Verdi campaign called Aktion 05 (http://www.aktion05.de). Communication Office Platoon (http://www.platoon.org) - with the license and the advise of the joker - set up barrier tape demonstrations all over the country to fight against the decreasing apprenticeship places for the young.

SOON// 1st Heavyweight European Championship Chessboxing

Andreas 'D' Schneider and Tihomir 'Tigertad' Titschko are now on full training speed for their fight on the 1st of October. Interval-, 20m Chess-, and of cours Chess Box Sparring Training are daily ingredients for the two heavyweight chessboxers. (official announcement will come soon...)

SOON// Shopped to Death exhibition

Official announcement will come soon...

So far so good.

Best greetings from Berlin,
IEPE & Kitchen Team Berlin, : Documentation Exhibition & Performance

"Fighting is done in the ring and wars are waged on the board. "

We are pleased to announce that T&S Gallery will present the 1st Chessboxing
World Championship documentation exhibition & performance by IEPE & Kitchen
Team Berlin.

The 1st Chess-boxing World Championship took place in Amsterdam,
Netherlands, in November 2003. It was a match, Iepe (the joker) vs. Luis
(the lawyer).

The first-ever event attracted a wide public attention, attended by an
audience of 800 that included not only people from the sport world but also
those from the art, the science and the medicine worlds and young
club-goers, as well as lots of press people.

IEPE, the artist who conceived the project, has been undergoing boxing
training for three years to participate in the game as one of the
competitors himself. The competitors fight by alternating rounds of chess
and boxing on the ring. When the winner is decided in either chess or boxing
part of the match, the contest will end. (For more detailed information,
please refer to the "Rule.")

Creation of the Berlin-based artist, chessboxing combines the game of chess
that requires high mental power and the combat sport of boxing that demands
great physical strength. Perhaps only an artist could have thought of
bringing together such extremely different kinds of sports.

1st Chessboxing World Championship is an inter-disciplinary project that has
a number of interesting aspects worthy of close examination. It involves
art, sports and science and welcomes interaction among different communities
and cultural styles. It is an encounter of people from different fields that
usually have no chance of contacts with each other.

The project aims at bringing forth an event of communication out of
encounter of various things. One can feel great energy in this. There is
also a sense of provocation by the artist who seems to be putting a question
whether this can be art. The audience are left to make their own judgments.
The artist is also presenting a new challenge to himself.

How could we interpret chessboxing as art? It may no longer function as art.
Or we may have to expand the definition of art.

In any case, chessboxing is worth seeing with your own eyes. We look forward
to your visit.
