Das Wunder von Berlin (The Berlin Miracle)

An open-air installation by IEPE
Location The square in front of S-Bahnhof Hackescher Markt, Berlin Mitte
Dates 17th August until 30th September 2002

The Rotterdam artist IEPE has lived in Berlin since 1997. From the 17th August for six weeks he will transform the "Square in Front of Hackescher Markt S-Bahn Station" into the setting for one of his notorious art actions: "Das Wunder von Berlin" (The Berlin Miracle) is a new work in which the artist will cause a large ash tree to rain at irregular intervals.
A digital camparagraphera will record the miraculous event and the pictures will be displayed in the internet for those unable to attend the spectacle in person. This will be at the address https://www.iepe.net
IEPE"s previous art actions at Hackescher Markt in 1999 in which he taped off the intersection in1999 for the project: "Nice", said the Joker to the King - Almost finished" and then in 2000 when he steered a giant "Ship of Fools" into the Hackescher Höfe complex are already stuff of legend. In his work, the city becomes both backdrop and stage for his performances in which residents and passers-by become drawn in to the festive drama of the event. IEPE has also organised and realised performances in Tokyo and New York.
On the 17th August at 8pm, the "Berlin Miracle" will open with a special event: The Archbishop of Berlin will bless the tree accompanied by a choir of nuns. Afterwards, DJ Marius Rollstuhl-Reisser will continue the further musical accompaniment to the evening and refreshments will be available to accompany the party atmosphere.
At the opening,Sven Mehnert will be available to answer your questions.
